    SKU: 04-766 XKGJT

    $6,995.00 $5,395.50

It has been some time since we have had the pleasure of offering a pickelhaube from the very small Duchy of Anhalt, Saxony’s neighbor. In 1900, the population of Anhalt was 271,963. Its capital was located in Dessau. Its final reigning Duke was Friedrich II, who ruled from 1904-1918. Anhaltisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr 93 was founded in 1807 during the Napoleonic Wars. Bataillone Nrs 1 and 3 were garrisoned in Dessau, while Bataillon Nr 2 was based at Zerbst. The regiment was assigned to the IV. Armeekorps……

    SKU: 04-818 XKGJT A

    $9,495.00

This is a very fine example of a highly sought after officer pickelhaube from 1. Badisches Leib-Grenadier-Regiment Nr 109. This elite regiment was founded in 1803 during the midst of the Napoleonic wars and was garrisoned at the capital city of Karlsruhe where it was attached to the XIV. Armeekorps. In the German army there were seven elite infantry regiments. The pickelhauben that they wore was dictinnctly different from the other line and guard regiments from their respective states. Included in this group was 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß from Prussia, Infanterie-Regiment Nr 92 from Braunschweig, Königl. Sächs. 1 Leib-Grenadier-Regiment Nr 100 from Saxony, 1. Badisches Leib-Grenadier-Regiment Nr 109 from Baden, Leibgarde-Infanterie Regiment (1. Großherzogl.) Hessisches) Nr 115 from Hesse-Darmstadt, and Grenadier-Regiment Königin Olga (1. Württembergisches) Nr 119 from Württemberg, and Infanterie-Leib-Regiment from Bavaria. Each of the headdress from these regiments are highly sought after. The pickelhauben from Saxony and Württemberg are not as showy and hence can be purchased for a more reasonable price. The other five which include four pickelhauben and one mitre are the real stars of the headdress of infantry regiments……

    BRAUNSCHWEIG – PICKELHAUBE – RESERVE OFFICER – INFANTERIE-REGIMENT NR 92

    SKU: 04-779 XKGJT

    $9,995.00 $8,095.00

One of the most popular pickelhauben is for the Duchy of Braunschweig’s Infanterie-Regiment Nr 92. This popularity stems from their use of massive Totenköpfe (Death’s Heads) that appear superimposed over their Prussian-style wappens. [PLEASE NOTE: the Totenkopf appeared on only four regiments’ headdresses. These were the 92’s sister unit, Husaren-Regiment Nr 17 (also from Braunschweig), along with the Kingdom of Prussia’s Husaren-Regiments Nr 1 and Nr 2]. This Totenkopf had NOT always appeared on all Braunschweig pickelhauben. Up until 1912, one of the regiment’s Bataillone (Nr III) had employed a beautiful, enameled wappen that featured the profile of Braunschweig’s iconic horse, while Bataillone Nr II and Nr III displayed the Totenkopf. After 1912 all Braunschweig Bataillone converted to the Totenkopf. [Many of these earlier helmets converted their “horse” wappens into Totenköpfe, which is why so few “horse” wappens still exist. That said, we have a simply gorgeous 92nd Infanterie-Regiment “horse” wappen on offer elsewhere]……

Today we are offering a definite rarity, an Infanterie-Regiment Nr 92 Officer’s Pickelhaube. I know you are more used to seeing Infanterie-Regiment Nr 92 helmets displaying the Totenkopf (Death’s Head), but another version was used earlier by the regiment’s Bataillon Nrs I and II. After 1912, the entire regiment switched to the wappen sporting the Totenkopf. The earlier examples are seen far less often. Although many collectors prefer the Totenkopf wappen, this beautiful helmet deserves equal consideration, primarily because the wappen’s center features enamel on it……

Without a doubt, this is the rarest kugelhelm that we have ever offered. Although we have previously offered officers’ kugelhelme from SINGLE regiments in the past, today we are offering you one from a single Batterie WITHIN a regiment. [It is quite probable that the Batterie never contained more than five officers at any one time]. This exciting offering hails from the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, whose Batterie Nr III formed part of a Prussian Feld-Artillerie-Regiment that was formally designated as Holsteinisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr 24. While the rest of the regiment was garrisoned at Güstrow, Batterie Nr III was garrisoned in Mecklenburg-Strelitz’s capital city, Neustrelitz. The regiment was raised in 1872, so it only existed for a brief thirty-six years before WW I’s end. The regiment was attached to Prussia’s IX. Armeekorps……

PRUSSIA – MITRE – 1900 CENTENNIAL FUND-RAISING WITH GREEN, RED, AND WHITE PUSCHEL

    SKU: 33-369 XJT

    $1,295.00 $450.00

Around the turn of the 20th Century, charitable fund-raising in Imperial Germany touched on its citizens’ patriotic fervor by employing a military theme. A popular offering was inexpensive copies of Mitres that had been worn by famous regiments. This is a copy of a Mitre worn in the mid-1700s. Based on its Puschel, I believe it was for by IR 18. It sports a black metal front plate with a Prussian Black Eagle holding a sword and a scepter, and the cypher “FR.” Its body is red with white piping and flames around the base. The rear flame displays a circular disk below it. Its interior features a strip of black leather and a fine cloth liner with a drawstring to adjust its size. The letters “XXVIk134″ are stamped on the cloth liner. The plush white Puschel is beautiful. It sports a red band and a green center. It is very unusual to find a Puschel with these Centennial pieces. It is a beautiful and rare copy of an early Mitre……..

PRUSSIA – MITRE- ENLISTED MUSICIAN – ERSTE GARDE REGIMENT ZU FUß BATAILLON NR I – FRIEDRICH der GROßE-STYLE

    SKU: 33-363 XJT

    $4,595.00 $3,150.00

This is an Enlisted Musician’s Erste Garde Regiment zu Fuß Bataillon Nr I or II Mitre. It boasts the “Semper Talis” bandeau on its ornate silver front plate. The cloth back is red with ornate white strips for trim. Its red Puschel indicates that it was worn by a musician. Elite regiments, as well as many line regiments, had their own bands that led the regiment during parades. The Mitre’s interior features a soft leather liner similar to those found in pickelhauben. The number 54 appears on one of the liner’s petals, with a name appearing on another petal, as well as a very faint maker’s name stamped on a third petal. Its condition is excellent, with NO moth holes or dirt smudges on the red fabric. This is a beautiful Mitre that was only worn by two Bataillone of one Regiment, or 0.2% of the Imperial German Army……

    PRUSSIA – PICKELHAUBE – GENERAL

    SKU: 04-771 XJT

    $8,995.00 $7,200.00

This is a fine Prussian General’s Pickelhaube that provides an intriguing contrast to the Prussian General à la Suite helmet also offered in this update. The helmet has great eye appeal, with a leather body (skull) that is in good condition, overall. It has a squared front visor rather than a rounded one, as is correct for a General Officer. One area on the right rear section does display some leather-loss. It is actually more of a crack that reveals the material underneath the leather. Another one to one and a half-inch spot appears on the opposite side. Some settling of the crown has occurred at the point where the cruciform is attached, which is a frequent occurrence on helmets that sport large cruciforms……

    PRUSSIA – PICKELHAUBE – GENERAL À LA SUITE’S OR FLÜGELADJUTANT’S

    SKU: 04-770 XKGJT

    $9,495.00 $7,645.50

This is a very fine Prussian General à la Suite or Flügeladjutant’s pickelhaube. The role of the Imperial German Army General à la Suite was an interesting one. Officers of this type were typically royals or nobles who did NOT have a direct field command. Instead, they were appointed to the à la Suite group based on their birth rather than their military ability. In addition to being more of an honorary officer, they often served their sovereign as a Flügeladjutant. In the Prussian Army, a line or serving General Offizier wore a helmet that had all-gilt furniture, as well as a squared, front visor. The à la Suite General’s had all-silver furniture, with the exception of its gilt-toned officers’ stars……

PRUSSIA – PICKELHAUBE – OFFICER – 1. GARDE REGIMENT ZU FUß – PARADE BUSH AND SERVICE SPIKE – “SEMPER TALIS” BANDEAU

    SKU: 04-742 XJT

    $19,995.00 $13,500.00

This amazing pickelhaube ensemble is a consignment item. It comes to us from two very special collections. It originally hailed from one of Europe’s premiere collections, and now has been consigned to DRM by the USA’s leading (in my opinion) pickelhauben collector. The helmet has become surplus to the gentleman’s needs, so he has entrusted us to find it a new home!…..

It is also one of the rarer Dragoner-Regiment Pickelhauben that you will ever see. The regiment, while a Dragoner-Regiment, was officially known as Grenadier-Regiment zu Pferde [a Grenadier Horse Regiment] Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr 3. The regiment was raised in 1703 and garrisoned at Bromberg, where it was attached to the Prussian II. Armeekorps……

PRUSSIA – PICKELHAUBE – OFFICER – TRICHTER AND PARADE FEATHERS

    SKU: 04-760 XKGJT

    $8,495.00 $7,645.50

One helmet that we are frequently asked about is the Prussian General Officer’s Parade Pickelhaube with the trichter and parade feathers rather than the service spike. To be honest, they do NOT appear very often. The General’s Pickelhaube with spike is rare enough, but a spiked helmet with its parade feathers and trichter, constitutes a stupendous find!…..

    SKU: 04-827 XKGJT A

    $4,995.00 $4,150.00

This is a fine officer pickelhaube from Grenadier-Regiment Kronprinz (1. Ostpreußisches ) Nr 1. This elite regiment was founded in 1655 and was garrisoned at Königsberg i. Pr and was attached to the Prussian I. Armeekorp. The front plate (wappen) on this helmet is a variation of the basic wide winged Grenadier eagle with the addition of the historic banner “1655” on the hips of the Grenadier Eagle to commemorate the founding of Grenadier Regiment Nr 1 on 20 December 1655. The “1655” banner was first authorized for Grenadier-Regiment Nr 1 for the Heraldic Eagle (small winged eagle) by AKO on 6 Nov 1888. When the eagle was changed to the Grenadier Eagle on 6 May 1900, the outstanding mention banner was moved from above the eagle’s head to the eagle’s hips. The eagle is found in only one size and was worn with a Reich and a Prussian Kockarde….

This is a first time offering from Der Rittmeister Militaria and which I have long sought. It is an Enlisted Man’s (EM) shako for one of the two elite Guard Machine Gun Abteilung units. These units were formed in 1901 (Nr. 1) and 1902 (Nr.2) and were integrated into the infantry regiments early in the war so I doubt if these shakos saw more than thirteen or fourteen years of service at best….

Today we are offering a very special officer’s Tschapka from one of the Imperial German Army’s most elite Ulanen-Regiments. In fact, it is the MOST prestigious Tschapka we have ever presented on our website! It represents Prussia’s 2. Hannoversches Ulanen-Regiment Nr 14, which was garrisoned at St. Avold-Mörchingen. Founded in 1805 during the midst of the Napoleonic Wars, it was attached to the XVI. Armeekorps. While nominally a Prussian regiment, its roots stretched back to the Kingdom of Hannover. Hannover was absorbed into Prussia after it chose to align with the losing side during the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. Nevertheless, the Hanoverian tradition remained strong within all of its regiments after their assimilation into the Prussian Army……

One of the Imperial German Army’s most elite Dragoner-Regiments was Dragoner-Regiment König (2. Württ.) Nr 26, to which this pickelhaube’s officer-owner once belonged. The regiment was formed in 1805 and garrisoned at Stuttgart (in the section then known as Cannstatt). It was attached to the XIII. Armeekorps. While it was considered to be the second of Württemberg’s Dragoner-Regiments, it actually was the “King’s Own,” making it more elite.
