It is a tunic from the Grand Duchy of Hessen-Darmstadt The regiment was founded in 1621. It was the oldest and most important regiment in the Hesse army It was in fact known as the Grand Duke’s Garde and was known officially as Leib-Garde (1. Grossherzogl) Nr 115. It was garrisoned at Darmstadt and attached to the XVIII. Armeekorps. The tunic is a prewar dunkel-blau (dark-blue) example, made of wool. It sports eight large silver-toned buttons edged with red piping down its center.
