The Duchy of Braunschweig’s Infanterie-Regiment Nr 92 and Husaren-Regiment 17 were two of the Imperial German Army’s most legendary units. Their soldiers displayed Totenköpfe (Deaths-Heads) on their headdresses from the Napoleonic times forward. [They also sported menacing black uniforms well into the 1880’s, before transitioning to dunkel-blau (dark-blue) then WW I’s Feldgrau (field-grey) uniforms]. Naturally, members of both regiments wanted to display the Totenköpfe on their personal items as well, such as this marvelous goblet. Since the goblet does not sport a bandeau, it could belong to either Infanterie-Regiment Nr 92 or Husaren-Regiment 17….
