$195.00BELT – “HATE BELT” ASSEMBLED BY AMERICAN SOLDIER – FEATURES TWENTY-FOUR DIFFERENT BUTTONS, INCLUDING A KOKARDE AND OFFICER’S PIPS So-called “Hate Belts” were unique trench art items that were assembled primarily by American soldiers as war trophies. The men used a standard, Imperial German, Enlisted Man’s belt to which they attached German soldiers’ buttons and other found objects. The “Hate Belt” that we are offering today features TWENTY-FOUR different objects. Without a doubt, it is the largest of its like that I have ever encountered. Typically, most of the belts I previously had encountered displayed around eight-to-ten widely spaced items. Due to the increased number of items on display, the objects are more closely-spaced. The twenty-four objects include one U.S. button, a wide variety of uniform and collar rank buttons from several different Imperial German states, an officer’s schirmmütze kokarde, and an officer’s shoulder board rank star. [It even includes two Kaiserliche Marine uniform buttons, and one from a Hussar’s Attila]! The brown belt measures 37” in length. NO metal attachments are present at its ends, meaning the belt cannot be worn. It is strictly for display purposes, but WHAT a magnificent display it is!
