  This is an Enlisted man kugelhelm from the Kingdom of Saxony. The body of the helmet is made of metal. This makes it a transitional kugelhelm that was produced after the ersatz variety and before the M-1916 stalhelm. The metal helmet was thought to afford better protection from shrapnel that the leather or ersatz bodies did not. The black paint would rate excellent. It has a silver emblem with the Saxon coat of arms. This is superimposed on a brass sunburst. This is in fact a prewar wappen and not the subdued that was more commonly seen once the war began….
