IRON CROSS – 1914 – 1st CLASS – THREE PIECE SCREWBACK
This is a very slightly vaulted 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class three-piece screwback. The obverse’s paint rates at about 85%. As we examine the reverse, we see a repair where the screw post attaches to the Iron Cross. Extensive soldering is evident. A round backing plate measures 1 1/4″ in diameter. The locking nut features a small handle. It bears the legend “Deutscher Offizier Verien,” along with an .800 silver hallmarking. It is good-quality screwback that is a bit “saltier” than we often offer. It remains an appealing example, in any case, and is attractively priced.
