AUSTRIA / GERMANY – PLATE – PATRIOTIC – COMMEMORATING THE GERMAN AND AUSTRIAN ALLIANCE 1914-1916.

This is a patriotic plate which celebrates the German and Austrian alliance during WW I. Generally we see plates which show the German and Austrian Kaisers. This plate speaks to the more common man in the form of German and Austrian soldiers.

The central theme is a German and Austrian soldier shaking hands. They are surrounded by Oak Leaves complete with acorns. We also see the three national flags of Germany, Austria, and Hungary. At the bottom of the pate we see the years 1914/16. The edges of the plate is green and white. There are designs which to me are reminiscent of feldzeichens which would be seen on shakos.

On the reverse we see no indication of the manufacturer. There is a single hole that has been drilled and through this is a piece of wire which would have served as a hanger.

This plate was meant for display and not as tableware.
