Description
AUSTRIA / SAXONY – ORDER OF THE RED EAGLE 4th CLASS.
This is the final version of the Order of the Red Eagle 4th Class, which was awarded from 1879 to 1918. It can be confirmed to be the final version by the cross’s pebbled arms. The cross’s obverse features a Red Eagle painted upon a white enamel background that is centered within a circular frame. Its reverse features Friedrich Wilhelm’s royal cypher “FW” in raised relief on its metal center.
Its jump ring displays an orange and white tri-fold ribbon. The latter tells us that the decoration quite possibly was awarded to either a Saxon or an Austrian. The decoration is in very fine condition.
