Karl Emil Schäfer was one of the most able pilots in Jasta 11 and a favorite of Manfred von Richthofen. He had thirty confirmed victories and was awarded the PLM. He was killed in action on 5 June 1917. This shows him in uniform in a studio pose. He is not wearing a PLM.

This is a Sanke card of Otto Höhne (1895-1969). Höhne served in Jasta 2 under Oswald Boelcke and also in Jastas 1 and 59. He scored a total of six victories as a pilot. In WW II he rose to the rank of Generalmajor and was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. In this photo he is shown seated. He is wearing his 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class and his Prussian Pilot Badge. I once had the pleasure of meeting Höhne’s Son and gave him a similar postcard to what we offer today. The postcard was not mailed.

Erwin Böhme was one of the leading pilots of Jasta 2. Jasta 2 was commanded by Hauptmann Boelcke. Another member of the Jasta in 1916 was a young officer who had come from an Ulanen-Regiment, basic pilot training, and limited service in an observation squadron. The young pilot was none other than Manfred von Richthofen. Böhme was a PLM-winner and had twenty-four confirmed victories. He is perhaps best known as the pilot who collided with Oswald Boelcke, who then plunged to his death. Böhme ultimately commanded Jasta 2, which was renamed “Jasta Boelcke” in honor of its fallen commander. Böhme received notification of his award of the PLM. He never actually received his PLM before his death. This postcard shows him in a feldbluse with a ribbon bar, 1914 Iron Cross, and a Prussian Pilot Badge. This postcard was removed from a photo album.
