GERMANY / AUSTRIA – PATRIOTIC BOWL – KAISER WILHELM II OF GERMANY AND KAISER FRANZ JOSEF OF AUSTRIA
Germany and Austria were allies at the beginning of WW I. There was a true fever of patriotism at the outset of the war. This plate shows the two Kaisers and their respective coats of arms.
This is an early war (1914-15) patriotic plate of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Kaiser Franz Josef. The porcelain plate has an iridescent or opal like finish surrounding the outer trim with three bands of gold circling the bowl. The outer edge is scalloped. The lettering of the bowl is gold and is faded as appropriate for the age. There is a wreath of oak and laurel leaves surrounding the Kaisers with their countries colors on each side of their images.
