GERMANY – BAYONET – PRE WW I S-98 – FOR A MAUSER RIFLE
This is a very nice example of a pre WW I S-98 bayonet which would have been mounted on a Mauser rifle.
The bayonet measures 26” from the tip of the wooden handle to the tip of the leather scabbard.
A leather scabbard was more practical prior to the war and was replaced with a metal scabbard that would stand up better to the elements.
The blade measures 21” in length.
The blade is in prime condition and is little different than it was one hundred plus years ago.
One thing of note is the cross guard this is also a difference from the bulk of the war time bayonets which did not have this feature.
There are no manufacturer or unit markings on the blade.
The leather scabbard is in excellent condition. It is supple with no mars to its surface. This is a better example of the two that we are offering.
This is a consignment item.
