GERMANY – BELT AND BUCKEL – OFFICER – NAVY
This is a curious Navy officer brocade belt and buckle. The first is the size as it measures X” around the waist. To me this means one of two things. Either he was a very small adult or he was a child and this would make this a kinder belt.
But the curiosity runs further. Generally officer belts have a felt or sometimes a velvet backing. This has a WHITE SILK backing! There is shredding to this just like we often see in the silk liners to pickelhauben. My guess is whether this was for a small adult or a child he may have been a royal. The buckle is a fine burnished gilt. The fire gilding has a fine patina to it.
Regardless this is a wonderful belt and buckle and would make a fine addition to any collection.
