GERMANY – CAP TALLY – ENLISTED MAN – S.M.S. EMDEN
This is a cap tally for the Kleiner Kreuzer (light cruiser) S.M.S. Emden. She was one of the more famous and successful of the German Navy ships. The cap tally is made of black silk. Embossed on it in silver lettering is the name of the vessel.
The S.M.S. Emden was attached to the Ostasiengeschwader (East Asian Squadron), commanded by Vizeadmiral Maximilian Graf von Spee. The Emden which was under the command of Karl von Müller was detached from the main fleet and sent on a raiding mission to the Indian Ocean. While there she sank a Russian and a French warship plus seventeen merchant vessels. She was finally found and destroyed by a larger and more powerful Australian cruiser.
The cap tally is full length and in excellent condition.
