Germany – Cigarette Case – U Boot Emblem – Burl Wood

SKU: 03-182

$1,295.00

This is a VERY high quality cigarette case which was most likely owned by an officer who had served in the U-Boot service. As the U-Boot abzeichen (Badge) was not authorized until March 1918 this may well be a post war case. Especially in light of the declining conditions in Germany which except in extreme conditions the quality of flight and U-Boot badges was not of the greatest quality….

Definitely a craftsman of tremendous talent worked in making this cigarette case and it would have taken a man of great taste and with the funds to commission it.

In our humble opinion burl wood is among the most elegant of woods. We personally own examples of burl wood and love the rich deepness and colors of it.

As you look closely at both the interior and exterior of the case, you will not the rich luster of the randomly placed designs of the wood. This burl wood is not limited to the interior and exterior but is seen on the sides. If you look closely even the small tab which allows you to flip up the top is made of burl wood! This is attention to detail and confirms the great skill taken to produce this case.

The crowning touch is a silver (It is silver isn’t it?) U-Boot badge that is centered on the outer lid. It is extremely detailed and how it compares to a full size badge is amazing. The rivets which hold the badge in place are discreetly attached to the lid of the interior.

Words can not do proper justice to this cigarette case nor the attached detailed photographs. It is in amazing condition for being about one hundred years old. Whether you simply display this in a place of honor or elect to use it to house your business cards you will come to treasure this one of a kind artifact as we do.
