GERMANY – GONG – IRON CROSS MOTIF GONG FOR AN OFFICER CASINO
The officer casino was the German version of an American officer’s club. It was a place where officer’s could gather and share drink and discuss military matters. These casinos were established at the garrison buildings in Germany (And could be quite elaborate.) Or in the field in Russia, France, or Flanders. The gong is mounted on a wooden base There is a metal hoop attached in two places. Attached to this hoop is a circular disc which is secured by string. The disc appears to be made from zinc. On this disc we see a large engraved 1914 Iron Cross. There is nothing on the reverse.
