GERMANY – IRON CROSS – 1914 ENVRAVED – DEDICATED TO A MAN IN A LUFTSCHIFFER-BATTALION
In the Imperial German army, Luftschiffer-Battalions came in two different varieties. First there were the units that operated observation balloons. Second were the airships. In this case we are unable to determine in which type of unit that this man served.
The 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class is of the flat or non-vaulted variety and the core is magnetic. On the reverse we note that the pin is of the swollen or coke bottle variety. This confirms that this is NOT an issue Iron Cross and was rather privately purchased and then engraved.
The engraving is well executed and there are four lines:
- Albert Müller
This is a very rare and desirable Iron Cross 1st Class.
