This is a very fine example of a depot issued winter dunkel blau (Dark blue) mütze for an enlisted man who served in a U-Boot Flotilla.

The cap is constructed of a high quality dark blue wool.

There is a single red trim band at the top. The Reich kokarde is centered on the cap.

The black silk cap talley has “III. UnterSeeBoots=Halbflottille.III.” in silver. The tally is correctly tied and it is quite clear that it is original to the cap and not added on. The term Halbflottille is for “Half Flotilla”. Quite simply the overall flotilla has been split in half with a commander for each half as opposed to one commander for the overall Flottille. This arrangement was commonly seen in other Navy formations such as Torpedoboots.

The interior shows depot marking.

The sweatband and top of the cap are in fine condition.

Overall the mütze is in excellent condition with barely a hint of moth tracking that you must look very closely to even see it.
