It is a Navy Land Plane pilot badge. Pilots who were in this group were generally assigned to Navy Jastas in Flanders. These were elite Jastas and produced one or more Pour le Mérite pilots.

This badge has beautiful fire gilding. The badge is of the one piece massive design. The Hohenzollern crown that sits at the top of the badge has two slots which is a characteristic of the Schaper firm. On the flat pin we see hallmarking for “Schaper”.

The badge is fitted to a fantastic red leatherette. Upon opening we see the upper half is a handsome red silk. Imprinted on that surface in gold, we see the information of the firm Hugo Schaper. This includes that they were a royal house firm which provided items for and with the approval of Kaiser Wilhelm II for others and that they were located in Berlin.

This is a really exciting find for us and we are most pleased to share it with you.
