HOMEMADE EARLY WAR WALLET/MILITÄRPAß COVER

SKU: 10-861

$95.00

This is an item that was lovingly prepared for a soldier at the front by a girlfriend, wife, or mother back in Germany. It is a Militärpaß wallet/cover that measures 3 ½” x 5″ when closed, and 5″ x 7″ when opened. It incorporates a black silk outer covering attached to the heavier, almost canvas-like material that makes up the wallet/cover proper. The black silk front is embroidered with several decorations. The first is “1914” above a Hohenzollern Crown, with a Hohenzollern Eagle beneath it. The very bottom displays the caption “Kriegsjahr” (War Year). All of it is hand stitched in multiple colors. The silk has shredded over the wallet’s “spine.” Its interior features two pockets for money, photos, etc. The Militärpaß was placed in its center for protection, leaving the center pockets for other uses. Although it is too fragile for actual daily use, it would make a fine addition to a group or display.
