Established in August of 1914, the Lippe Detmold war merit cross is adorned with gilt tone and ribbon.  This award from the World War I., was established by the Prince Leopold IV.

The Cross on combatant ribbon was awarded to officers and soldiers of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 55 as well Lippe citizens who served in other units.

This example is that of the NON combatant therefore it would have been awarded to a civilian.
