HESSE-DARMSTADT – MILITARY RED CROSS SERVICE CROSS
This is an interesting decoration that comes from the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt. It is the Military Red Cross Service Cross. It was awarded to soldiers who were serving in a Red Cross capacity.
- It is an interestingly-shaped cross, of a type rarely seen among German decorations
- The cross is gilt-toned and on the obverse we see “Für Pflege der Soldaten( For Nursing Soldiers)” and 1914
- On the reverse it reads “Den 25 ten August 1870(The 25th August 1870),” when the award was established
- It comes attached to a red and gold ribbon
- Very fine condition
