SKU: 40-637 XDG

$350.00 $275.00

This is a consignment item. It is a photo album of Königin Augusta Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr 4 as it fought on the Eastern and Western Fronts during WW I. The album begins on 1 September 1917 with the Battle of Riga. After the battle the regiment, along with the remainder of 2. Garde-Infanterie-Regiment, was transferred to France for rest and refitting. It was then placed in the St. Mihiel Salient. The regiment participated in most of the big battles in France from mid 1917 until the war’s end in November 1918. It fought in many battles, including the Somme and Ypres. At the war’s end, it saw service in Berlin during the riots with the Communists. It also served in Courland and Poland following after WW I ended.
The album, which measures 13″ x 9″ x 1,” has approximately eighty photographs, ten aerial photographs, twenty-six postcards, and two maps. In looking through the album I even see a photo of a British tank. It is well organized, with back up research. It has many photos of the troops at the front and soldiers wearing stahlhelme, since their pickelhauben had been sent home for the duration.
You will have several hours of enjoyment as you pour through the photographs and postcards and compare them to the included historical data.
