They are carrying French Regimental Standards, topped by the legendary French Eagles, which Napoleon I had instituted during the early Napoleonic Wars. The postcard was mailed from Berlin to Philadelphia in 1911, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Franco-Prussian War’s end.

This is a most interesting color postcard. It shows the victory parade held in Berlin following the 1870-1871 Franco-Prussian War. If you look closely, you will see Kaiser Wilhelm I, Otto von Bismarck, and Kronprinz Friedrich Wilhelm (later Kaiser Friedrich III). The postcard has a message written on the obverse. (Many early postcards only had space for the address on the reverse). On the reverse we see that the postcard was mailed in 1900.
