In the Prussian army there were several elite Dragoner-Regiments, including Garde-Regiments. Then there were line Dragoner-Regiments. They were separated by the color of their wappens and other fittings. Some were silver toned and some were brass. Today we will deal with those regiments that wore brass. There were a total of five regiments which would have worn this helmet. They included:
- Dragoner-Regiment Nr7
- Dragoner-Regiment Nr 8
- Dragoner-Regiment Nr 11
- Dragoner-Regiment Nr 13
- Dragoner-Regiment Nr 14
The overall condition of the leather body is very fine. It has the squared front visor which is correct for all Dragoner-Regiment bodies. All of the furniture is brass which corresponds with the above mentioned regiments. The correct Prussian and Reich kokarden are present for an Enlisted Man/NCO.
The interior is pure Enlisted Man/NCO with the liner as used for this type of helmet. All of the tongues are present and the rest of the leather shows its age. The sizing cord is not present.
From the lack of depot markings, this may well have been a private purchase helmet although it does not have the characteristics of a One Year Volunteer helmet although it does have an officer pearl ring which in itself does not lend itself to a OYV but may have been overlooked by the officers who commanded this man.
A fine helmet and very modestly priced.
