SANKE CARD NR 361 – OBERLEUTNANT MAX IMMELMANN – “DEATH CARD.”

This is Sanke Card Nr 361 of Max Immelmann who, along with Oswald Boelcke, was an early winner of the Orden Pour le Mérite. Immelmann was killed in the summer of 1916. The Sanke Card is a studio pose that features Immelmann wearing his PLM, his 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class, and his Prussian Army Pilot Badge. He is also wearing a large medal bar.

Directly under Immelmann’s name, a small cross indicates that he is deceased. It also means this card was produced in 1916 (and later). The postcard shows some silver oxide on its edges. It was never mailed and remains in fine condition.
