PRUSSIA – SCHIRMMÜTZE – OFFICER – JÄGER-BATAILLONE – IDENTIFIED
This is an officer schirmmütze for a Prussian Jäger-Bataillone. The body of the cap is green with a wide red band. The Reich and State kokarden are also present. There is also a red trim band at the top.
As we look at the interior of the cap we find a cloth sweatband which is quite unusual. I think the owner thought that cloth would absorb the perspiration better than leather. There is also a plastic cover over the silk liner which also shows me the owner was very conscious of perspiration.
But the real treat here is that this cap is very elegantly identified. Under the plastic cover we see a calling card for a doctor. (Alore see if you can make out the man’s name please) So this man was a medical officer for this unit. Of course we don’t know for certain if he looked after men or horses.
Overall the exterior of the cap is quite nice. I see one moth nip on the top and that is about it.
