PRUSSIA – TOTENKOPF – ENLISTED MAN/NCO – DEVICE FOR A SCHIRRMÜTZE – LEIB-HUSAREN-REGIMENT NR 1 & LEIB-HUSAREN-REGIMENT
This is the totenkopf device as worn on the shirmmütze of Enlisted Men/NCO from Leib-Husaren-Regiment Nr 1 & Leib-Husaren-Regiment Nr 2 from Prussia. Both of these regiments were among the most elite in Germany. The Regimental Chef of Leib-Husaren-Regiment Nr 1 was none other than Kaiser Wilhelm II. Photos of him in the uniform and headdress of this regiment were as frequently seen as those of him wearing the uniform and headdress of the Regiment der Garde du Corps. Other noted officers attached to this regiment were the Crown Prince Wilhelm and none other than Generalfeldmarschall August von Mackensen. As a young officer in the regiment during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871, he was awarded the 1870 Iron Cross 2nd Class.
This device is in excellent condition with both prongs on the reverse in place where you might attach it to a schirrmütze or it in itself would make a fine addition to a any collection.
