The Flugeladjutant was an important role in the courts of Imperial Germany. Whereas a full adjutant was a generally symbolic office often filled by royalty of high nobility, the Flugeladjutant was typically an officer of the rank of Oberst and below. These officers did much of the communication from the court to higher levels of army command. The body of this is not made of traditional leather but rather fiber and has a squared front visor. This is a forerunner of fiberglass and gives the exterior a brilliant black look. The wide spread wings have a marvelous silver patina. In the center of the wappen there is an equally impressive silver sunburst. I the center of that we see a brass crowned coat of arms from Reuss. The chinscales are also silver toned. The cruciform and pearl ring is again silver with a fantastic patina. The trim on the front visor is also silver. The officer stars are brass. The final detail is the fluted removable spike which is of average height and not overly tall. The correct kokarden for Reuss and the Reich are attached.

Turning to the interior of the helmet, The leather sweat band shows moderate use and also has markings which we believe to be from a museum where this helmet once belonged. The silk liner also shows some wear which includes some perspiration where it rested on the original owners head. There are a couple of minimal runs or small tears which are not detractive. All of the original hardware is in place with no extra holes where the wappen is attached.
This is an amazing and very rare spike helmet that is 100% original and in superb condition.
