This is a color postcard of the Battleship S. M. S. Kaiser Wilhelm II. She was commissioned in 1902 and was the second of five ships in the Kaiser Friedrich III Battleship Class. She served as the fleet flagship from 1902-1906. With WW I’s outbreak she and her four sister ships were relegated to coastal defense. In 1915, she was withdrawn from service and returned to Wilhelmshaven. Until the war’s end, she served as the offices for the High Seas Fleet Commander. She was scrapped in 1922 at Hamburg. The postcard comes from a color painting. The postcard is rendered in color as well. She is seen steaming toward the viewer. It was never mailed.
