WÜRTTEMBERG – KUGELHELM – OFFICER – LINE FELDARTELLERIE-REGIMENT
This is a very fine example of a line officer kugelhelm from the Kingdom of Württemberg for a Feldartellerie-Regiment. Württemberg had a total of four Feldartellerie regiments, They being Nr 13, 29, 49, and 65. This helmet could be correct for any of these four regiments.
This helmet is made of fiber as opposed to leather and has a high gloss finish. It has a square as opposed to rounded front visor. It is likely that this helmet was produced some time after 1900. Fiber were not as commonly seen as leather and they were a significant upgrade over leather. Some of the regiments were created in 1899. There is some minor cracking at various points but it does not detract from the overall presentation.
All of the furniture to the helmet is brass. The wappen in particular is quite beautiful and has a brilliant fire gilded finish. The correct state and reich kokarden are present. Especially noteworthy is the Württemberg pattern of kokarde. The Reich kokarde is standard Prussian. The difference in the kokarden is acknowledgment of this man’s pride in his native state.
The interior has a well preserved light brown leather sweatband. Attached to that is a complete and near mint beige silk liner. Under the silk liner there are no additional holes and the original hardware is present.
This a fine original kugelhelm in well above average condition.
