Offered here is a fine enameled patriotic brooch in the form of the Iron Cross 1914. This style of miniature decoration was worn on civilian clothing during the First World War to demonstrate support for the war effort and to echo the military awards being presented at the front.
The cross is executed in black enamel with silver-colored trim, featuring the crowned “W” for Kaiser Wilhelm II at the center and the date 1914 along the lower arm. The badge retains strong enamel work with only minor wear from age and use.
The reverse shows a simple pin-back attachment, typical of the era. The metal surface displays some honest patina, attesting to its age.
Patriotic brooches like this were widely produced during the war years and carried by both men and women in support of Germany’s struggle. They remain highly collectible today as symbols of the home-front experience of the Great War.
Condition:
Very good overall, with intact enamel and original pin fitting. Minor surface wear consistent with period use.
