This is an extremely rare, autographed portrait photograph of Karl Allmenröder, one of Imperial Germany’s most celebrated fighter aces of World War I. Signed by Allmenröder himself in 1917, this original period artifact is preserved in its vintage wooden frame with gold detailing and an inscription on the reverse reading "Luft und Abenteuer, 1917" (Air and Adventure, 1917).

About Karl Allmenröder

Karl Allmenröder (1896–1917) was a highly decorated German fighter pilot in the Luftstreitkräfte (Imperial German Air Service) and a member of Jasta 11, the elite squadron commanded by Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. With 30 confirmed aerial victories, he was among the top aces of the war. His skill and bravery earned him the coveted Pour le Mérite (Blue Max), which is prominently displayed in this photograph, along with his Iron Cross First Class and the Prussian pilot’s badge.

Tragically, Allmenröder was killed in action on June 26, 1917, at the height of his service with Jasta 11. His legacy remains deeply intertwined with the history of German aviation and the famous Flying Circus of the First World War.

Photograph Details & Autograph

This high-quality, period photograph presents Allmenröder in his wartime uniform, proudly wearing his Pour le Mérite, Iron Cross First Class, and aviator’s badge. The portrait is a studio-style image, capturing the young ace with a composed expression and impeccable dress—a testament to his status within the Imperial German Air Service.

The autograph, penned in dark ink, reads:
"Herzliche Grüße von Karl Allmenröder"
(Translation: "Best regards from Karl Allmenröder")

The signature remains bold and well-preserved, with slight fading consistent with over a century of age. Hand-signed photographs of WWI fighter aces, especially those from Jasta 11, are exceptionally scarce, making this piece an outstanding collector’s item.

Frame & Presentation

  • Original black wooden frame with gold detailing, complementing the photograph’s historical significance.
  • Period glass cover protects the signature and image from further wear.

The frame has minor wear and patina, adding to its authenticity and period charm.

Historical Significance & Collector's Appeal

This autographed portrait of Karl Allmenröder is an exceptionally rare relic from World War I aviation history. Few signed photographs of Jasta 11 aces survive today, especially in original framed displays.

Collectors, museums, and aviation historians will find this artifact an invaluable addition to any collection focused on:

  • Imperial German Aviation
  • Jasta 11 & Manfred von Richthofen's Flying Circus
  • Pour le Mérite Recipients
  • First World War Military Memorabilia

This piece is an irreplaceable testament to the legacy of Karl Allmenröder, one of Germany’s most revered war pilots.

Display & Preservation Suggestions

  • Shadowbox framing to further protect against UV exposure.
  • Controlled humidity and temperature storage for long-term preservation.
  • Pair with related WWI aviation items such as a Jasta 11 squadron document, a Pour le Mérite medal display, or period aviation goggles for a museum-quality exhibit.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a genuine, signed photograph of a Pour le Mérite fighter ace, preserved in its original presentation.
