Wilhelm Frickart, born in 1893, served in various roles in the German Army during World War I. He began his military career as a gunner in a two-seater observation aircraft, where he became the only person to achieve ace status by shooting down enemy observation balloons from such an aircraft. His exceptional skill in this role earned him a promotion to Leutnant der Reserve.

Frickart served in both Jasta 64 and Jasta 65, continuing his success by shooting down enemy aircraft until as late as October 1918. Despite his significant contributions, Frickart did not receive the prestigious Orden Pour le Mérite but was instead awarded the Knights Cross with Swords of the Hohenzollern House Order, a notable honor in its own right.

The Sanke card shows Frickart in an M-1915 Feldbluse, adorned with his Prussian Pilot badge, Iron Cross 1st Class, and a small ribbon bar. His signature is present but not very dark, a common issue with period autographs. Aside from this, the card is in mint condition, providing a striking image of a decorated and respected German pilot.

This Sanke card is a valuable addition for any collector interested in World War I aviation history and the brave pilots who served in the skies during the Great War.
