Duchy of Anhalt 1914 Friedrich Cross – Combatant’s Merit Award
A beautiful piece of "Small State" history, the Friedrich Cross was the Duchy of Anhalt's answer to the Iron Cross. Established by Duke Friedrich II in the first winter of the Great War, this bronze cross was awarded for bravery to the men of the Anhalt regiments. Its elegant design and unique green-and-white ribbon make it a standout addition for any collector of the Kaiser's diverse imperial forces.
Historical Context
Instituted on December 12, 1914, this was the primary bravery award for the small Duchy of Anhalt. It was awarded to soldiers who showed exceptional merit in the field, specifically those serving in Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 and No. 188. While millions of Iron Crosses were made, only approximately 17,000 to 20,000 Friedrich Crosses were awarded, making them significantly more scarce.

Condition
The cross is in excellent condition. The bronze finish is consistent and has developed a pleasing, warm patina over the last century. The details of the crown and the "F" monogram remain sharp. The ribbon is a period original; the green silk remains vibrant and the white edges show only minimal age-toning.
