This stunning Enlisted Man's Atilla tunic was a private purchase piece, indicating the original owner had great pride in his regiment and commissioned it with officer-quality craftsmanship. This tunic represents the 2. Rheinisches Husaren-Regiment Nr 9, founded in 1815 during the Napoleonic Wars. This elite cavalry regiment was stationed in Straßburg I. E., and served under the XV. Prussian Armeekorps.

Throughout its distinguished history, the regiment took part in notable conflicts, including the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871, where its participation contributed to the decisive Prussian victory. This war led to the unification of Germany and the crowning of Wilhelm I as the first German Emperor. The regiment also played a key role in World War I, where many cavalry units were deployed as dismounted infantry, fighting alongside other German divisions.

Features and Condition:

The tunic boasts a luxurious dark blue exterior, made from high-quality pre-war fabric, dating it between 1900-1910. During this period, textiles of this caliber were still widely available, but such materials became scarce by the start of World War I.

Key features include:

  • Yellow embroidery on the facings, collar, and cuffs, which remain in excellent condition.
  • Rosette buttons and barrel clasps, which are crafted from polished brass and retain their original luster.
  • Sewn-in shoulder straps with duller brass buttons.
  • Rear detailing includes two brass barrel buttons and ornate embroidery.

Inside, the tunic is lined with officer-quality black silk, emphasizing the attention to detail and craftsmanship. The overall condition is superb, with minimal signs of wear. The front is free of moth damage, while the reverse shows some light moth tracking near the shoulder—hardly noticeable when displayed.

This Atilla is a fine example of pre-war German military attire, making it a top-tier collectible for those interested in German military history or the Imperial German Army.
