This striking, hand-colored lithograph depicts a high-ranking Imperial German general—possibly a Prussian field marshal—adorned in full dress uniform with a highly detailed array of orders and decorations. The officer's stern countenance, formidable beard, and aged features suggest the likeness may be modeled after a historical figure from the Franco-Prussian War or early German Empire period. He is shown wearing multiple medal bars, including what appears to be the Iron Cross and various starburst orders.

His double-breasted, dark tunic features six buttons in the front, fringed shoulder epaulets with gold detail, and a distinctive red collar—the mark of general officer rank in the Imperial German Army. Prominently, he wears the Grand Cross Breast Star of the Order of the Red Eagle with swords, among others.

The lithograph is professionally framed in a period wood frame with glass and retains its original paper backing, now aged and brittle. Light water staining is visible at the bottom edge of the print—common in antique items of this age—and does not affect the central image. The back remains sealed, indicating the lithograph has not been removed or altered post-framing, adding to its historical integrity.

Condition:
Good to very good antique condition. The lithograph has preserved its vivid coloration through the years. There is evident water staining at the lower margin, along with some age-related discoloration and waviness. The wood frame shows modest wear and patina consistent with age, with no visible breaks or separations. Glass is intact.

Historical Significance:
Portraits such as this were commonly displayed in military offices, family parlors, and regimental associations. The detailing of the uniform and orders suggests a high degree of accuracy in replicating the military regalia of the late 19th century, with a particular nod to Prussian tradition and honor culture.

Dimensions:
Approx. 20 in x 16 in (framed)

Collector’s Note:
This piece would serve as a commanding addition to any collection of Imperial German militaria or 19th-century portraiture. Its strong presence and evocative presentation make it suitable for both military historians and period interior decor collectors.
