Offered here is an outstanding example of the Fürstlich Hohenzollerische Ehrenmedaille—an award instituted on January 1, 1842, by the ruling House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. This beautifully struck silver medal is preserved in its original fitted case, a rare survival that elevates both its desirability and collector value.

The obverse features a crowned cypher "C" encircled by the inscription "DEN 1. JANUAR 1842" and surrounded by oak and laurel branches, which represent martial strength and civic virtue. The reverse bears the crowned arms of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and the phrase "FÜR TREUE UND VERDIENST" (For Loyalty and Merit), again encircled by detailed oak and laurel wreathwork.

The deep blue silk and velvet interior of the presentation case is clean and bright, marked in silver:
“J.G. Zimmerer & Sohn, Fürstlich Hohenzollerische Hofjuweliere, Sigmaringen”, attesting to its origin from the court jeweler to the princely family.

Condition:

  • Medal: Near Mint, with excellent detail and minimal tarnish.

  • Ribbon: Original, lightly toned, no fraying.

  • Case: Exterior shows modest wear and some surface marks but retains strong color and integrity.

Collector appeal:

This medal offers a remarkable combination of noble association, mint presentation, and historical provenance. It would make a fine centerpiece for any Hohenzollern, princely German states, or merit medal collection.
