Circular openwork patriotic medallion commemorating the unification victories of 1870–71. The obverse centers on an Iron Cross with the dates 1813 – 1870, symbolizing the continuity of Prussian valor from the Wars of Liberation through the Franco-Prussian War.

Around the perimeter appears the inscription:
“Aus Deutschlands Heldenkampf, gegossen aus Kriegsbeute” – “From Germany’s heroic struggle, cast from war booty.”

The reverse features a portrait of Wilhelm I surrounded by the words “Weil dem Sieger – Vaterland” (“Hail the Victor – Fatherland”) and battle names Sedan, Metz, and Paris, recalling the decisive German victories that brought the downfall of the Second French Empire and the proclamation of the German Empire at Versailles in 1871.

Cast in a white metal alloy—traditionally said to be made from captured French bronze artillery—the pendant measures approximately 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) in diameter with a small suspension loop at top. Surface shows uniform age toning and honest wear consistent with late 19th-century production.

Such patriotic souvenirs were popular mementos distributed to veterans and civilians alike following the war, symbolizing national pride in the newly founded German Empire.

Condition: Very good; minor oxidation and wear to raised details, no cracks or repairs.

A quintessential 19th-century patriotic relic commemorating German unification and victory over France. Scarcer in complete, legible condition with intact suspension loop.
