Curt von Morgen (1858-1928) lead a most interesting and diverse military career. From 1889-1891 he served in the German colony of Kamerrun. In 1894 he was charged with the formation of the Schutztruppe in Kamerun. Little is known of his career until 1912 when he was promoted to generalmajor in 1912 and placed in command of the 81st Infanterie Brigade which was based in Lubeck.

In August 1914 he was promoted to Generalleutnant and placed in command of the 3rd Reserve Division. Under his command this Division was a part of the victories at Tannenburg and Masurian Lakes against the Russians under the overall command of von Hindenburg. In November 1914 he was placed in command of the 1. Reserve Korps which he commanded during the remainder of the war on the eastern Front. He was awarded the Pour le Mérite in December 1914. The Oak Leaves to the Pour le Mérite were added in December 1916. He retired from military service in 1919 with the rank of General der Infanterie.

This postcard shows him seated at his desk attending to paper work. It shows him with the rank of Generalleutnant. This pose is prior to December 1914 when he was awarded the Pour le Mérite. Only the ribbon for the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class appears on his tunic. The card is signed by him on both the obverse and reverse and on the reverse it is dated 1919 when he retired. To our knowledge this is the only postcard of him. Overall condition is fine and with the notation on the reverse displays a great deal of character.
