An original Leutnant’s silver-cord shoulder board (Schulterstück) of Fußartillerie-Regiment von Hindersin (1. Pommersches) Nr. 2 (Foot Artillery Regiment von Hindersin, 1st Pomeranian, No. 2). The reverse is fully documented, carrying labels reading “Fig. 2.0 – Fuss A. R. 2” and “Leutnant, Fuss-Art-Rgt. v. Hindersin (1. Pommersches) Nr. 2, II. A. K.” A pair of crossed gun-barrels above a gilt “2” numeral, without rank stars, denotes Leutnant.
The board is built of flat braided silver cord worked in the herringbone pattern and turned at the rounded head, mounted on a golden-yellow wool underlay. The lower field carries a pair of crossed gun-barrel devices above a gilt “2” numeral. A vertical button slit is worked at the head, and the squared base terminates in cut cord ends.
Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr. 2 bore the honour title “von Hindersin” after General Gustav von Hindersin, the Inspector-General who modernised Prussian artillery in the wars of unification, and was raised in Pomerania within the II Army Corps. The foot artillery manned the army’s heavy siege and fortress guns. The crossed-barrel device marks the artillery arm, and the numeral “2” identifies the regiment.
The reverse documentation names the regiment, its honour title, its provincial designation, and its corps; the absence of a rank star denotes the grade of Leutnant.
Condition is good. The silver cord retains good braid definition with the expected tarnish, and the gilt device and numeral are present and secure. The golden-yellow underlay is sound, both collection labels are intact on the reverse, and the base shows cut cord ends in the manner normal to the unfinished tuck end. No restoration is evident in the provided images.
A named foot-artillery regiment, fully documented on the reverse down to its corps assignment, gives this board strong research and attribution value, making it a desirable piece for a collection of the artillery arms or of Pomeranian formations.
