This is an original Imperial German miniature pin featuring the 1914 Iron Cross, surrounded by a finely detailed laurel wreath. The front displays a black enamel Iron Cross with the crowned "W" cypher of Kaiser Wilhelm II at center and the date "1914" at the lower arm, all set within a gilt wreath symbolizing victory. The enamel work remains sharp and well-preserved, showing only minor wear consistent with age.

The reverse features its original functional horizontal pin-back, affixed to a gilt mounting plate. Measuring approximately 21 mm in diameter, this pin was likely worn as a lapel device to signify award of the Iron Cross during or after the First World War. Such miniatures were privately purchased by veterans and served as a discreet but proud display of service and valor.

CONDITION:
Very good overall condition, with light surface patina to the gilt and minimal enamel loss. The reverse retains its original hardware, fully functional. No repairs noted.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The Iron Cross was instituted by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia in 1813 and reauthorized for subsequent conflicts. The 1914 version, reintroduced by Kaiser Wilhelm II at the outbreak of World War I, became one of Germany’s most recognized military decorations. The presence of the laurel wreath on this miniature symbolizes honor and victory, making it a particularly appealing variation for collectors. Miniature pins such as this were typically worn on civilian clothing and often came from high-quality jeweler's workshops.

PROVENANCE:
Acquired from a private collection in Germany.
