Imperial German Iron Cross Enamel Lapel Brooch – WWI Era (1.5 Inches)

This striking WWI-era German brooch features a bold black enamel oval field set with a finely executed gilt Iron Cross at its center, one of the most enduring symbols of Imperial valor. Measuring approximately 1.5 inches across, the piece is crafted from brass with a polished gilt edge, framing the deep black enamel surface.

The reverse retains its original simple pin-back attachment, showing age-appropriate patina and oxidation consistent with early 20th-century manufacture. The enamel face remains well-preserved, with only minor surface wear, and the Iron Cross motif is cleanly defined in contrasting gilt.

These small brooches and pins were often worn by veterans or patriotic citizens during and after WWI as discreet yet powerful emblems of loyalty to the Kaiserreich and its armed forces. Unlike official decorations, such pieces were privately purchased and frequently worn on civilian attire, making them both personal and symbolic.

Condition: Very good for its age. The enamel retains a high gloss with only minor wear. The reverse shows tarnish and oxidation to the brass and steel pin, but the clasp remains functional. No cracks or repairs noted.

Measurements: 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide.

Collector’s Note: A handsome and display-worthy Imperial patriotic brooch, representing the homefront culture of remembrance and pride during WWI. These smaller enamel pieces are increasingly sought after by collectors of Imperial ephemera and personal adornments.
