This is a single original officer’s Epaulette (epaulette) of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 124 of the Kingdom of Württemberg, specifically the 6. Württembergisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 124 “König Wilhelm I.” The absence of rank stars on the field identifies the wearer as a Leutnant (second lieutenant), the junior commissioned grade.
The epaulette is built on the standard Imperial officer pattern: a convex brass crescent over a padded oval Feld (field) of scarlet wool, with a silver bullion strap of flat subaltern braid rising to the button slot. At the center of the field sits a gilt crowned cypher, an interlaced royal monogram beneath a pierced crown, denoting the regiment’s royal patron. No rank stars are present, consistent with the lowest officer grade.
Württemberg maintained its own army contingent within the Imperial structure, retaining distinct regimental traditions and royal patronage under the House of Württemberg. Infantry Regiment 124 carried the name of King Wilhelm I, and the crowned cypher on this field reflects that royal association. As with all Imperial officer epaulettes, the piece would have been privately purchased and worn with full dress.
The crowned cypher marks the regiment as held under a royal chief; the unstarred field fixes the rank at Leutnant. The piece is identified to Württemberg by its regimental attribution rather than by any state-specific construction feature visible in the images.
Condition is very good. The brass crescent retains good color with light wear to the high points; the silver bullion strap is intact with light tarnish. The scarlet field is even in tone. The reverse retains original red felt backing with a collection label affixed.
Württemberg officer insignia is less commonly encountered in the market than Prussian material, and named regiments under royal patronage hold particular interest for state-focused collectors. A clearly attributed Leutnant’s epaulette of IR 124 is a desirable single piece for a Württemberg or southern-states collection.
