This is a handsomely patinated octagonal presentation box in bronze-colored metal, measuring approximately 3.5 x 3.5 inches, constructed from sheet metal panels hand-joined at each facet. The lid features the same eight-sided geometry with beveled edging and a small dome finial, while the front retains its original swing-latch and catch plate. The piece shows period hand-worked seams, soft edges, and tool-finished surfaces typical of late-19th to early-20th-century small-work metal craft. The bottom carries a molded octagonal frame matching the lid’s decorative lines.

The interior reveals its intended purpose: a fitted display or ring-presentation cavity, lined with orange velvet. The inner lid includes a silk panel printed with an Imperial German eagle beneath a flowing banner, framed by twisted red-and-gold cord. This eagle is the pre-1918 Reichsadler, associating the box with the late Kaiserzeit. These small presentation boxes were commonly used by jewelers, regimental jewelers, and private retailers to deliver commemorative rings, brooches, sweetheart jewelry, or miniature honors to officers, NCOs, and family patrons. The box’s octagonal form, metal construction, and printed silk lining point to a higher-grade commercial piece rather than a mass-produced civilian trinket, consistent with giftable Imperial-era presentation items.

Collector appeal lies in its intact period interior with Imperial eagle, working clasp, and rich, uncleaned patina. These boxes often become separated from their original contents, and surviving examples in metal—rather than leatherette or cardboard—are comparatively uncommon. This example’s complete velvet insert strongly suggests it once housed a ring, possibly a regimental, veteran, or commemorative piece issued around 1890–1918.

Condition is period-honest: exterior wear, seam ripples, and age toning appear consistent with hand-formed construction. The clasp operates, the hinge is stable, and the silk interior retains its printed eagle with only mild toning. The velvet cushion sits firmly in place. There are no structural breaks or repairs visible.
