This is a fine example of an Imperial German Prussian Officer’s Garde Eagle Button, a distinctive uniform accessory from the elite Prussian Guard Regiments of the German Empire. The button features a raised Garde Star surmounted by the crowned heraldic eagle, its wings spread majestically. The detailed embellishments, including the finely executed starburst and “FR” (Fredericus Rex) cypher on the eagle's chest, signify its connection to King Frederick the Great’s legacy.

The rim of the button is adorned with a decorative rope-like border, adding an elegant touch befitting the high-ranking officers who wore these buttons. The reverse bears the manufacturer’s mark—"E. M. BERLIN"—indicating it was produced in the German capital, a hub for high-quality military accouterments.

Historical Context:
The Prussian Guard (Garde-Regimenter) was an elite corps in the Imperial German Army, often tasked with ceremonial duties and stationed in Berlin. Their uniforms bore distinctive insignia, with buttons such as this signifying prestige and distinction. These buttons were typically affixed to the tunic and greatcoat of officers serving in the Garde-Korps, which included infantry, cavalry, and artillery regiments.

Condition:
This button remains in very good condition, with crisp detailing and only minor signs of wear. The reverse shows patina and age-appropriate tarnishing, with the loop shank still intact, ensuring authenticity.

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: Approximately 22mm–25mm
  • Material: Likely gilded brass or silvered brass, as was standard for officer’s buttons.

Collectability & Display:
This button is a highly desirable artifact for collectors of Imperial German militaria. Its strong connection to the Prussian elite units makes it a standout piece for display or inclusion in a uniform restoration project. Ideal for historians, reenactors, or collectors seeking original Imperial German regalia.
