Imperial German State Crown (Reichskrone) Patriotica Stickpin – Kaiser-Era

A pure expression of national loyalty, this miniature stickpin features the Reichskrone, the crown of the German Emperors. Unlike regimental or state-specific awards, this pin was a universal symbol of the Second Reich, often worn by government officials, veterans, or patriotic citizens to signal their devotion to the Kaiser and the unified German state.

Historical Context

The Reichskrone (Imperial Crown) was designed following the unification of Germany in 1871. While based on the medieval crown of the Holy Roman Empire, this specific heraldic version became the omnipresent symbol of the Hohenzollern monarchy. It appeared on everything from the national flag to the Wappen (helmet plates) of the Prussian Guard. This stickpin belongs to the era of "Kaiser-Treu" (Loyalty to the Kaiser), a period where civilian wear of such miniatures was a standard social indicator of one's political and national alignment.

Physical Description
  • The Miniature: A detailed 3D representation of the Imperial German Crown. It features the four curved arches meeting at the top, surmounted by the Globus Cruciger (the orb and cross).
  • Detailing: The "jeweled" base of the crown and the textured "velvet" cap within the arches are clearly rendered. The distinctive "mitre" shape, visible from the side profile, confirms this as the Imperial crown rather than a specific royal crown of Prussia or Bavaria.
  • Material: Struck in a gold-toned brass or bronze alloy, finished with a fine fire-gilt or gold wash.
  • The Pin: Mounted on a slender, silver-toned knurled (twisted) stickpin, designed to grip the fabric of a lapel or cravat securely.
Condition

The stickpin is in excellent condition. The gold finish remains quite bright, especially in the recessed areas of the crown's arches. There is no evidence of "zinc rot" or significant oxidation. The pin is straight and the solder point on the reverse is original and firm. It has a wonderful, honest "cabinet patina" that collectors look for in period Patriotica.

Provenance

This item is sourced from a private collection of Imperial German civilian awards and Patriotica. It represents the high-quality jeweler's work common in Berlin and other major German cities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
