This is a finely crafted Imperial German veterans’ association long-service badge commemorating 25 years of membership in a regimental or patriotic veterans’ organization during the Kaiserreich period (pre-1918).
The badge features a detailed Imperial German Crown at its crest, symbolizing loyalty to Kaiser and Fatherland. Below, a large interlaced monogram—most likely representing the initials of the veterans’ or regimental association—is enclosed within a laurel wreath of high-relief leaves. The wreath, rendered with fine vein detail, represents military honor and achievement.
At the base of the badge, the number “25” is displayed in raised numerals, denoting a quarter-century of continuous membership or service. The badge is die-struck in a silvered white metal, with the original finish still present in most recessed areas, showing only minor wear from age.
The reverse is plain, without maker’s marks, and fitted with a functional horizontal pin-back clasp of the period. The construction and attachment style are consistent with late 19th- to early 20th-century veterans’ association insignia.
DIMENSIONS: Approximately 37 mm (height) x 30 mm (width).
CONDITION:
Very fine. Silvering remains intact in the majority of surfaces, with light age patina. Details of the crown, wreath, and monogram remain crisp. The reverse shows light oxidation typical of period pieces, with the pin and hinge fully functional. No repairs noted.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Veterans’ association badges were worn proudly by former soldiers on civilian clothing during reunions, commemorations, and national holidays. These organizations—often tied to specific regiments—helped maintain the camaraderie, traditions, and shared history of Imperial Germany’s armed forces. A 25-year badge was a mark of long-standing loyalty and commitment, often awarded during a formal ceremony.
