Imperial German Veterans’ Association Badge – Monogram within Wreath
This is a finely detailed Imperial German veterans’ association badge dating from the World War I period. Constructed of a gilt alloy, the badge measures approximately 1.5 inches across and is designed in the form of an ornate oak and laurel wreath. At the center is an intricate openwork monogram — likely denoting the initials of the veterans’ organization to which the wearer belonged.
The badge retains its original horizontal pin-back fitting, visible on the reverse. The reverse shows period wear, patination, and some solder reinforcement at the hinge and catch, consistent with a piece worn and preserved for over a century.
These types of association badges were commonly issued or purchased by members of local veterans’ groups (Kriegervereine) across the German Empire during and after the Great War. They served as a symbol of fellowship and remembrance, often worn on civilian attire at gatherings, commemorations, and parades.
Condition: Very good for age. Gilt finish shows honest wear and age toning, with fine detailing still visible throughout. Pin-back remains intact and functional.
Measurements: 1.5 inches across.
Collector Notes: A desirable example of a patriotic and veterans’ organization badge, representing the pride and camaraderie of Imperial German soldiers after World War I. Such association pieces remain highly collectible today for their historical symbolism and intricate craftsmanship.
