Klempner- & Installateur-Verband Niedersachsen Commemorative Badge – Goslar, 17–19 June 1933
This is a scarce and historically significant commemorative badge issued for the regional conference of the Klempner- und Installateur-Verband Niedersachsen (Plumbers and Fitters Association of Lower Saxony), held in Goslar from 17–19 June 1933.
The obverse depicts the Kaiserpfalz of Goslar, the iconic Imperial Palace that served as the backdrop to many gatherings. Below the image, the legend reads:
“GOSLAR – 17–19 JUNI 1933” with an eagle device, framed within a shield. The surrounding inscription identifies the sponsoring trade organization.
The reverse shows the pressed relief of the design, unmarked, with clear evidence of its original construction method.
Physical Details:
-
Material: Pressed bronze alloy with a lightly gilded surface (obverse), unfinished reverse.
-
Size: Approx. 35 mm tall.
-
Fastener: Missing its original pin or attachment device (likely a vertical pin soldered to the reverse).
-
Condition: Very good overall for its age, though with some noticeable edge chipping to the bronze finish, particularly at the corners, and traces of oxidation. Despite this, the detail of the Goslar palace and text remains sharp and fully legible.
Historical Context:
By mid-1933, shortly after the consolidation of power in Germany, trade associations and guilds continued their scheduled meetings, many of which were increasingly integrated into broader state-aligned structures. This badge represents not only a professional gathering of craftsmen but also reflects the changing cultural and political environment of the period.
Collector’s Notes:
Badges like this, tied to regional trade organizations, were produced in relatively limited numbers and intended only for attendees. Surviving examples are desirable both to collectors of early 1930s German history and those interested in the broader history of trades, guilds, and professional organizations.
