Offered here is an original Prussian commemorative badge issued in 1915 to mark the 56th birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm II (27 January 1859 – 27 January 1915). The obverse prominently displays the crowned “W II” cipher of the Kaiser, surrounded by the patriotic motto “Ein Reich – Ein Volk – Ein Gott” (“One Empire – One People – One God”). The outer edge is encircled with oak and laurel wreaths, with the dates 1859 and 1915 flanking the design, commemorating the Kaiser’s life and reign.

This example is maker-marked on the reverse by G. Hermeling, a known Berlin jeweler and medalist responsible for producing a wide range of Imperial decorations and commemoratives. The badge is struck in bronze with crisp relief detail, and fitted with a horizontal pinback fastener.

Condition:
The piece shows even age toning and honest wear consistent with its age, with a sound pin assembly intact. Maker’s mark remains clearly legible. No repairs.

Historical Context:
Badges such as this were widely distributed during the First World War to celebrate the Kaiser’s birthday, which was treated as a patriotic holiday across the German Empire. Many were sold by patriotic associations to raise funds for the war effort. The “Ein Reich – Ein Volk – Ein Gott” inscription underscored the unity of the German people under the monarchy during wartime.

Provenance:
From a private collection of Imperial German militaria.
